Noel Novak is the first patient at El Camino Hospital Los Gatos’ Rehabilitation Center, which opened June 28 to rehabilitate patients affected by neurological disorders such as stroke, brain injury, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, spinal cord injuries and other orthopedic disorders.Two months ago, doctors at El Camino Hospital Los Gatos diagnosed Novak with Guillain-Barré syndrome after he arrived in the emergency room unable to breathe or walk.

Always athletic and active, Evelyn Osenda began to notice her slower pace while walking the trails in Yosemite National Park with her family. “I noticed I was always behind hiking,” the Sunnyvale resident said. “All at once, I’m 20 to 30 feet behind them trying to catch up.” But Osenda really became alarmed when other problems surfaced besides keeping pace on Yosemite’s trails.
